AUDIO DOUGHNUTS PRESENTS @ CORSICA STUDIOS – 28.08.11

Audio Doughnut's is back and this time with the fourth and penultimate 'Presents…' of 2011 and there's no holding back on the lineup.

Headliners include Tectonic founder and all round curator of cutting edge bass music, Pinch. Swamp81 will also be in attendance, represented by their very own Boddika. Also showing an appearance House & Funky specialist French Fries. And to round up the bass music nicely Hyperdub signing Funkystepz.

Alongside these music pioneers Audio Doughnut's will be bringing some of its own talent. AD's most recent signing - The Fives will be bringing their energetic live set to the main room. San Fransisco's Dubstep and now bass music Kozee. Green Money's recent co-singing Mista Men and Teeza will be finishing up the line up.

The night will be hosted at South East London's Corsica Studios, and will be decked out with Funktion-One soundsystem across two rooms.

If any of this is appeals the first 100 guests will get completely free entry and £5 after that before 12am.

Kid Smpl - Get Hype Exclusive Mix by Get Hype Collective

It’s a true pleasure to have Kid Smpl supply us this mix and we’re glad the Seattle based artist has decided to grace his talents on the Get Hype page. On the back of a number of E.P releases including the “Digital hands EP” and his “Ghostsuit EP” Kid SMPL is a regular lately on the mouths of many in the industry.

The feel of the music on display from the Kid Smpl in this mix is mesmerizing. It opens up with inducing us into a feeling that we’ve found the sound of the quintessential dream like state or something closer to the entrance to the pearly gates. The set picks up beautifully with tricky tempos and beats in and around the centre of the mix but only after steadily carrying the listener with an enchanting combination of vocal rhythms. The ambience is second to none and carries a haunting undertone, demonstrated so well in Kid Smpl’s “Understand” and “Healer”. This is all good and well up to the inevitable point of breakout, the calm before the storm. Kid Smpl plunges into some technically inspired loops and shows his versatility in the beats and as we approach the last third of the mix. Not scared to get his hands dirty we experience a breadth of varying styles and time before we find ourselves being moved into more peculiar states of musical mastery. Towards the back of the mix we’re plunged into a sick downpour of Grime lyrics from Trim’s “Listen now” that really puts the hat on the monkey for me. The beauty of forty minutes and modern technology combined with Kid Smpl’s inspired incentive once more making it all worth it, providing an insight in the kids range and intentions for his music and the future for all our lucky ears. Hopefully we will be hearing more from him with forthcoming releases.

“Ever on the rise, growingly infamous London-based label Audio Doughnuts are set to return to London with the third instalment of their eponymous ‘Presents..’ nights. Gracing the walls of London’s best kept secret; Counter Culture (based at 7-9 Crucifix Lane), this underground venue has formally hosted the sold-out ‘Night Slugs All-stars’ night and a whole plethora of the biggest names in electronic music.

Joining – if not outshining – the lengthy list of legends that have already shaken the foundations of Crucifix Lane is undoubtedly one of the most iconic names in the scene; named by Skream & Benga as a ‘veteran’, Audio Doughnuts are proud to present 2-Step & Garage legend Zed Bias aka Maddslinky. Joining this inimitable don on the upper echelons of the night’s expansive line-up is the the DJ’s DJ, the founder of Hessle Audio - Ben UFO.

As if that wasn’t enough they’ll be joined by Fantastic Mr Fox of Hemlock Recordings – the deserved winner of XLR8R’s Best Label award in 2010 and Rinse FM’s ‘Grimey Breakfast’ presenter and all-round dancefloor king Scratcha DVA. In addition to this, there shall be an incredibly special guest making an
appearance on the night.

Representing the Audio Doughnuts imprint are Funkitek sound creators R1 Ryders, Rinse FM’s house and funky prime-timer Shox, Grime’s man of the moment Teeza back-to-back with minimal house & experimental producer Korus, For The Win founders Goli & Ashburner and – named one of the most exciting new artists on Audio Doughnuts – Widowmaker, all alongside a whole host of other talented names.

After hosting two ram-jammed ‘one-in-one-out’ nights at East London’s Rhythm Factory, Audio Doughnuts will be hosting an expansive night of the world’s best electronic music inside the walls of Counter Culture complete on a world beating 80k Funktion One sound system complete with full live AV light show. From a label dealing exclusively in big moves comes their biggest move to date.

Finally the day has come! After weeks of anticipation we are proud to launch 'Jumanji'! This time Yoghurt Warrior brings you a blend of old and new with part one of the launch including 4 new designs aswel as the old classics such as 'Just Say Neigh' and 'Keeping It Splendid'. The new designs are also complimented with the first Yoghurt Warrior productions.. a new tune called Jumanji. As the name suggests, this project has been created using tribal, axtec, navajo and tropical influences, a theme for the summer as we emerge from hibernation in to the sun.

Freddy Todd - Neon Spectacle Operator (DOUBLE CD TEASER - RELEASED JANUARY 14TH) by Simplify Recordings

....Next up, Sam Moir Introduces is the debut compilation by journalist and broadcaster Sam Moir featuring a selection of exciting and emerging talent from the underground.
Sam has spent the last three months working with his favourite artists to secure tracks for the compilation, which is available for free download now.
Sam says: "Last year was a fantastic year for underground electronic music and this compilation features some of the most prodigious names who I’m tipping to do big things this year."
The forty minute compilation kicks off with an unreleased experimental piece of music from electro producer Inside Out Boy while there’s also soothing drum & bass track by producer Bad Habit, two artists Sam has championed heavily over the last year.
Upcoming future garage producers Submerse, Des Demure and Admin provide fresh cuts, as do rising Birmingham grime emcees Stomz and Trauma who have released exclusive music for the compilation.
Dubstep is also featured on the compilation, with producers from London, Manchester and Nottingham all contributing their unique take on the genre.
Emerging American producer Krts closes the compilation with chilled out track, Hold On.
Sam says: "Some of the artists, I’ve been supporting since last year but some were discovered and approached literally days before I created the final mix.
"The future's bright for electronic music, and it's because of talents like these."
Moir, 20, is under the mentorship of Former BBC Radio 1 DJ, Mary Anne Hobbs, at Sheffield's Forge Radio. His radio show was nominated for Best Specialist Music Programming last November.
In addition to his radio broadcasting, he his Deputy Editor of Radio 1/1Xtra DJ, MistaJam’s website and also contributes to Knowledge Magazine writing about upcoming talent.

Jim Raygun Exclusive Mix For Get Hype!

I'f you dont know about Jim Raygun by now, then you are some what slipping. I asked him i'f he could hook us up an Only Fools Mix for Mixtape Wednesdays on OnlyFoolsAndBeelines ...so he did. But after listening through the mix I could'nt help but have to post it up straight away on here.

I'f you like calm/soothing deep house as well as mellow uk funky and 2step then this one is definitely you, ..oh and of course there's some dubstep thrown in there for good measure!!

Mr Raygun is one half of Wobble Squad UK and helps promote some of the most leading underground club nights in East London. He has an ep coming out late December called the hessian matrix ep, and is currently working on a project with Medison and Pete Cannon for early next year (check out the bare noize remix of medison's Harry here)

Kastle has been smashing it of late with various original releases and remixes. The guys production is next level, combining easy listening beats with some more up front basslines creating tracks that are fit both for home listening and club play outs.

This brand spanking new remix of Blu Mar Ten was only released last week and has been building a lot of hype. The track is now number 3 in beatports dubstep charts and has had support from the likes of Skream amongst others. Kastle's other latest remix of Jeuce (Released the same day as Blu Mar Ten) has also been doing well, getting played twice from kissy sell out on radio one last week.

I'd say it's been a while since Eskmo last caught our attention, Agnus Dei (Ancestor) stuck around in our record bag for literally some time and I'd almost convinced myself, that was that. He has clearly been busy since then, Cloud Light is not one especially to fit that mould but I am seriously rating it and the production of the record is next level. He's managed to properly squeeze together some real glitch elements with Dub-Step and even a hint of R&B I hear. Out 6th September on Ninja Tune, definitely worth a look

Also if you'd be so kind to help us out with this one, some in the collective say female vocals would of worked better, I'm all for Brendan Angelides vocals. What says you?

Supra 1 - Ghoster

Meant to post this track up a while back by polish producers 'Supra 1', but it somehow (undeservedly) got forgotten about. The release was put out near the beggining of summer on trouble and bass with a shed load of remixes and two originals. 'Ghoster' is the B-side to the release with 'Still Believe' as the a-side. The tracks got a real nice flow with some big rising pads throughout the drop. Not too sure why this tune wasn't the main track on the release as it definitely kicks a lot more than still believe.

Mount Kimbie - Crooks and Lovers

Mount Kimbie have really proved themselves as some next level producers with their debut album 'Crooks & Lovers'. The album was released a few weeks back on hot flush records and has since gained a lot of hype. The album is a refined mixture of atmospheric synths, looped vocal samples and a large amount of smooth clicky beats throughout. As i am a sucker for any cut up female vocals there are three stand out tracks for me below, but make your own decision and grab the album over here.

Mount Kimbie - Carbonated

Definitely the most chilled of my favourites, 'carbonated' builds and floats into some beautifully picked vocal samples that prove to be infectiously catchy.

Mount Kimbie - Mayor

'Mayor' is more of a experimental club track. Reminds me more of something aphex twin would knock out. Again, cut up vocal laden riddemsss with a nice big synthy breakdown.

Mount Kimbie - Before I Move Off

More of a four tet feel to the track below, at a much slower tempo. Yet again, more glitchy cut up female vocals. Definitely one of those 'Staring out the bus window' tracks.

Released last week on May 31st, 'CMYK' for R&S Records has already been causing a stir and creating more hype around the ever elusive whizz kid James Blake. I am sure many of you would agree this guys production is next level, and this EP doesnt fail to deliver the goods.

The title track for the EP 'CMYK' is my personal favourite and is packed full of a weird and wonderful vocals samples, such as a one liner from Kelis's 'Caught out there' and odd melodies from Aaliyah's 'Are you that somebody?'. He manages to pitch and glitch these samples around his signiture wheezing organ pads sounds, creating a record that is definately going to turn alot of heads this year. Kavsrave has collaborated with the likes of A1 Bassline in the past, but this is the first original release of his to date (And a seriously good first release at that). Both tracks are filled with airy Hip Hop esk vocals, but still pack a punch when the bass drops. Reckon these tracks work just as well in your bedroom as they would do in the club.

Our friends over at Eight:Fx have been putting out some sick tunes of late. Particularly feeling two of the artists called Wobbelix and Aquadrop. I haven't heard of either of these producers before now, but i'm really liking the vibes on the tracks that they have both had released on Eight: FX over the past month.

"Dancehall Girls" by Aquadrop has a massive summer vibe to it. Really reminds me of the sort of wonky stuff Debruit has been making recently. "Red Violin" by Wobbelix is alot more filthy but has this seriously catchy violin line throughout that almost reminds me of something you would here on tom and Jerry (In a good way). Dark Sky - Something To Lose/Ghost Notes

Not the first time that Dark Sky have got a mention on Get Hype before, and gotta say I have high hopes for these boys over the coming year. The great thing about Dark Sky is the fact that each track they make keeps their own sound whilst sounding completely different from the last one.

Something To lose and Ghost Notes are the guys debut release and was put out at the beginning of the month, so apologies for not posting it sooner. 'Something to lose' is an amen break ridden, old school summer anthem. Played this out at the Mixmag party in shoreditch on Sunday and literally had people dancing on the benches. 'Ghost Notes' takes a more dark direction, packed with wonky bleeps, aphex snares and one deep grimey bassline. Make sure you check Dark Sky and buy the dub plate here.

As expected Noisia couldn't even go a week without smashing out yet another ridiculously tight production. As sure as death and taxes, like most of the Noisia discography, Alpha Centauri is set to absoutley whreck the club scene.

I've heard that people have very mixed feelings on this record, claiming it sounds cheap, with a hint of sped up cassette tapes and soft-synth presets? Are they even listening to the same track? This is SICK!

Haven't got round to sticking up a post on foamo in a while, which is slightly odd considering i would definitely rate him as one of the top producers around at the minute. Anyhoooo, just noticed that that Fat records stuck up a full preview of one of his new tunes 'centavo' over at their soundcloud. Pretty chuffed, as i have been searching for this one for a while now.

The track flows with his sort ragga/african rythms he has been making recently, but still keeps the huge bouncy basslines. This one definetaly sticks on loop in ya head afterwards.

Been a little while since i last paid a visit to 16bits twisted carnival of horrors. Never failing to disappoint with their relentless arsenal of some of the darkest sounds out. For most of you this will perfectly sum up some of the recent experiences you all will have had in the past few months. you know how it is, you stumble into the toilets to drain the bank around a quarter past 2 in the morning and without choice you are forced into two orderly queues. One will be the line of lads at the urinals who are praying to god that their shriveled up shlongs wont stay for good. The other, well quite obviously is a queue of people trying to get into the cubicle to dose some more of Britons newly acclaimed Methadrone. Cut a long story short you have to wait a bit longer to take a whizz!

Just out on Trouble And Bass today, is Boogaloo Crew's latest release 'Days Go By' and 'Calling All dancers'. My personal favourite of the two is 'Days Go By', with a cheeky sample that you may recognize in an older Drum n bass tune a few years back, and some crunching basslines running throughout. This release is already being repped by the likes of Plastician and of Course the whole trouble and bass crew, whilst also getting air time on Radio One with Kissy Sell Out even knocking out a Kissy Klub Version which is pretty Rude aswell. Nero - Innocence

Just found this one today, after listening im thinking that this is a track that is everything but innocent. One seriously big tune.

This is the second time weve posted Nero, following Act Like You Know a while back (if you havent heard it already definitely give it a whirl), since then ive been a bit sceptic about some of Nero's newer tracks. Theres no doubt at all that they are amongst some of the top producers in the scene at the moment, but with fame and talent always comes the potential of branching out into a more commercial market and i think Nero could easily go this way.

That said, Innocence is everything you could possibly want in a Dubstep floor filler, huge gritty bass, big beats and some very Nero signature trance esque synth pads and vocals. I would without a doubt pip this tune as one of the 2010 dubstep anthems....

Loops Haunt at first are not somebody I'm familiar with, although if I remember right, I clocked them on the line up with Aphex Twin and Luke Vibert at London's Matter club not too long ago but never looked into them. Well now I have, so here you go.

There kicking off a UK tour with 65 Days of Static in May and as far as I know pushing some releases with Black Acre so keep an eye out for some Electronically Industrial, Wobbulated Madness.
